Job Description
ABC4 is looking for a unicorn. Ours is retiring, and we need someone special to replace him. The applicant must be an excellent videographer (with 3 years experience). He/she will be producing long format pieces, shooting them and editing them as well. The job also includes producing and editing 30 minute specials produced by the news department. This person must create and maintain a good relationship with anchors and reporters, as well as photographers on staff. You must be a certified drone operator and know how to incorporate the video into newscasts and specials. Friday nights during the fall, he/she will take part in our Friday Night Beehive Blitz, our high school football program. Must be able to work unusual hours, independently and be a self-starter. Must also be proficient with Premiere Pro and able to carry a full-size broadcast camera.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Produces special reports and sponsored segments for newscasts and digital content for broadcast across all platforms
- Writes news and feature stories
- Shoots video and interviews for stories
- Approves scripts
- Edits video
- Writes stories for the website and other eMedia platforms
- Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience
- Fluency in English
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Minimum two years' experience in news operations
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Flexibility to work any shift
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The News Field/Special Projects Producer must be able to stand, sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Producer must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
