OverviewUnder the supervision of a Media Buyer, negotiate, purchase and monitor advertising space and airtime on behalf of clients. The objective is to reach the highest number of people in the target audience at the lowest possible costs or value for our clients while operating within company and industry standards of practice. Complete all market buys from beginning to end achieving the best outcomes for our clients, developing and maintaining professional relationships with media vendors, and providing our internal customers and service providers with what is needed on a timely basis. Provide guidance and coaching to Media Assistants.
Responsibilities- Estimate, negotiate and purchase all media including spot TV, radio, print, outdoor, and digital taking into consideration market conditions, historical pricing, and other such factors. Market list would consist primarily of small markets. Junior Buyer works closely with a Senior Buyer or Supervisor
- Coordinate with Traffic to ensure that all confirmed buys are uploaded in a timely manner
- Research, evaluate and negotiate Makegoods on timely basis
- Ensure all buys are posted on Media systems by quarterly deadlines. Ensure under delivery is recovered within nine months of the buy by working with stations. Junior Buyer works closely with Senior Buyer or Supervisor
- Reconcile monthly invoicing for all clients. Ensure schedules ran as ordered, secure credits where necessary, reschedule any lost inventory
- Provide direction to Media Assistants and assist with their development toward the Junior Buyer position
Qualifications- One to three years' experience in a media planning/buying role (for example, Media Assistant) in a retail marketing firm
- Experience evaluating and purchasing local broadcast schedules
- Excellent negotiating skills or basic abilities to be trained to develop this skill
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to analyze, interpret and apply research data
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Good interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships with vendors and teammates
- Experience working with media buying and research software such as Nielsen, Scarborough, Prime Lingo, AdViews, SQAD, and SRDS.
- Intermediate-level proficiency in Microsoft Office in Excel and PowerPoint
