OverviewThe Senior Medical Writer will beresponsible for the conception and execution of innovative print and digital materials designed to educate healthcare professionals on current and emerging therapeutics and will work across multiple therapeutic areas. The role sits within the Medical Communications department and reports into a senior manager on the medical team. Potential Med Affairs and Commercial projects to be worked on include field resources (decks, 1-pagers, etc.), peer-to-peer presentations and speaker training programs, advisory board meetings and executive summaries, congress materials and booth displays, congress competitive intelligence reports, and sales rep-delivered promotional materials. Must have strong writing skills with experience translating complex concepts into well-crafted content and performing literature searches. This person will be responsible for helping to shape the tactical execution of our client’s programs and offering unique solutions to challenges. This person will also be responsible for contributing to tactical recommendations that align to either medical or commercial strategic imperatives and overall client business objectives.

ABOUT THE SCIENTIFIC TEAM
Here at the Medical team, we have the ability to leverage our academic and medical backgrounds to create informative and compelling educational pieces across HCP audiences. Our expertise in various therapeutic areas is foundational to building the business and enhancing the quality of our colleagues’ work. We know that proven science and accurate data are the foundations to impactful strategy, brand story, and content. Our influence goes beyond the agency too—clients, stakeholders, and the Medical/Legal/Regulatory review (MLR) team look to us for insights and guidance.
Responsibilities- Develop high quality, scientifically rigorous content that is in line with client strategy and objectives, while adhering to referencing requirements, American Medical Association (AMA) guidelines, FDA rules and regulations, established timelines, and internal processes
- Research, write, and edit original educational content in distinct healthcare categories, ensuring quality of work, scientific validity, medical accuracy and integrity, and clinical applicability
- Research and secure references to ensure accuracy of medical/scientific statements and product claims; organize reference libraries and annotate content per account-specific referencing guidelines
- Fact-check and annotate initial round of jobs and subsequent rounds as necessary (has the ability to understand scientific and medical data to ensure that content accurately represents the source from which it was taken); defend content in a medical/legal/regulatory review meeting
- Attend internal meetings (status, kick off, internal review, etc.), medical/legal/regulatory review meetings, and client meetings as needed
- Help manage scientific/writing needs for live client meetings and programs (virtual or travel on site when possible)
- Cultivate expertise in the assigned therapeutic area(s)
- Present strategic concepts and content executions to the client; manage on-site scientific content presentation for client meetings
- Work with independence and agility to meet agency deadlines, proactively flagging any barriers to successful project completion that may arise (deadline, hours, budget, etc.) and suggest solutions that address client and Razorfish Health needs.
- Work towards enhancing efficiency, team productivity, and scientific/creative quality for all deliverables
- Future opportunity to mentor junior writers as the team grows
Qualifications- Education and agency experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of relevant medical writing experience, OR
- An advanced degree with 1-2 years of medical writing experience
- Experience working on some of the MedComms tactics listed above
- Experience working with both Medical Affairs and Commercial pharma teams desirable
- Experience with pre-launch therapeutics or in unbranded disease education desirable
- Ability to quickly come up to speed on therapeutic areas (experience in Ophthalmology or neuroimmunology desirable)
- Ability to assess a therapeutic landscape, perform SWOT analysis, etc.
- Able to interpret and summarize data sets with a basic understanding of statistics used in scientific literature
- Able to ensure scientific accuracy by fact-checking all relevant copy
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, mastery of English grammar, and ability to collaborate with other team members, and clients
- Comfort in speaking during client calls and with external content experts to collaborate on content development
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage projects with limited direction and work within tight deadlines is required
- Familiarity with PubMed, online research mediums, and/or other document delivery systems is preferred
- Strong PowerPoint skills including the ability to build basic data visualizations within the program, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Open to travel on site to provide medical writing support for live meetings, workshops, conferences, etc. (when possible)
