Job Description
The Director of Sales is responsible for achieving and exceeding revenue and operating goals for an assigned territory through management of all resources. This role involves leading and mentoring a team of sales professionals, managing key accounts, and driving revenue growth. (Please note that this role is not tied to an office, but candidate will need to work in the New York City area. Compensation will include salary + commission.)
Key Responsibilities
Sales Strategy Execution
- Execute sales strategy to maintain and grow the region and key accounts.
- Achieve and surpass assigned revenue targets.
- Ensure sellers meet prospecting and new business development expectations.
- Direct the team to utilize data and insights for selling, focusing on integrated/omni-channel solutions that align with clients' initiatives.
- Guide and mentor the team on selling with insights, crafting compelling narratives, and proposing innovative omni-channel solutions to clients.
- Oversee the entire sales process, ensuring overall success and clear understanding among associates.
- Participate in key account and new business meetings, fostering strong relationships with key clients.
- Comprehend and clearly communicate all aspects of the business to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure that support departments are properly engaged and fulfilling the needs of the sales team.
Team Management & Mentorship
- Provide strategic insights and support to all Sales Associates.
- Ensure all associates meet and exceed their revenue targets and performance goals.
- Proactively identify underperformance in relation to expected KPIs and collaborate with employees to set clear goals and strategies for improvement.
- Formally address performance issues promptly and effectively to ensure necessary improvements are made.
- Develop and mentor sales associates toward achieving their individual career goals.
- Mentor New Business Development, Sales Executives, and Sales Managers by fostering their growth, enhancing their vertical expertise, managing accounts, and driving new business opportunities.
- Identify employee knowledge and skill gaps, ensuring they receive the necessary training and upskilling.
- Foster strategic relationships between digital and print sellers to deliver omni-channel solutions.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure accountability for maintaining data across revenue reporting systems, enabling internal stakeholders to accurately understand and manage the business's performance.
- Ensure all sales activities are accurately recorded in Salesforce.com.
- Maintain excellent understanding and utilization of all revenue, team performance, and activity tools and reports to effectively coach the team and provide accurate feedback to senior leadership.
- Support and implement new products, technology and strategies as rolled out to the sales organization.
- Provide feedback to senior management on industry trends, strategies and challenges.
- Establish/maintain working relationships with internal cross-functional partners.
Qualifications
Education & Knowledge
- Bachelor's degree preferably in the fields of Business, Marketing, or Communications; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Working knowledge of Salesforce.com and Microsoft Office
Experience, Skills & Competencies
- 10+ years successful sales experience and required proficiency in:
- Digital Media, Marketing, Advertising space
- Skilled at selling through creating a compelling vision or story
- Highly effective at utilization of data and insights as a selling tool
- Prospecting/new business development
- Account management
- Selling multiple / integrated products
- 3+ years leadership experience
- 5+ years digital media/product experience
- Ability to effectively coach to success
- Proven sales experience including lead generation, solution selling and closing sales.
- Adapt to change including the market, products and internal company initiatives
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Ability to mentor sales associates to success through effective coaching
- Organized, detail-oriented and thorough approach to all responsibilities
- Consistent track record of success in achieving and exceeding annual quota and business objectives
Communication & Contacts
Communication with clients and internal co-workers – all levels of management, business leadership, customers, suppliers and other internal/external entities as required. Highly effective at presentations.
Decision Making Scope
- Autonomous decision-making authority.
- Requires broad conceptual judgment and ability to deal with complex factors.
- Ability to bring out-of-box recommendations to clients and areas that support sales (ie: targeting, marketing and pricing).

The national pay range for this role is $150,000 to $165,000 / year. The pay range may be slightly lower or higher based on the geographic location of the hired employee. The actual pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include participation in a bonus, commission or incentive program.
